A few miles to the east of Montgomery a narrow winding road runs through forest and swampland, connecting the small towns of Cecil and Shorter. According to local legend, the road is haunted by a young woman and her son. The story goes that if you drive it at night, not only will you see their ghosts and hear their cries, but if you drive the full length of the road, you will cross thirteen bridges going one direction, but only ten on your way back. We chose the title in honor of the legend and our location in the deep south, and as a reflection of our dedication to originality and surprise in the work we publish.
